I know, I cannot and will not even try to compete with my sister’s sauce. She just made me hungry to make some. So , I did my easy canned version. ( Although, I also make Grandma Galizio’s sauce, but our Mom showed me so it is a little different.) For this really fast sauce, I sauteed some onion in olive oil. I then add two large cans of tomatoes that I squish and breakup, S & P. That is it. I made some meatballs with hamburger, bread crumbs, egg, onion, fresh parsley & some Italian seasoning. After browning them in some olive oil, I put everything in the crockpot.
The garlic from Birdsong Farms looked so fresh and wonderful, I wanted to just eat it somehow. I decided to roast it with some olive oil, S & P. I sqeezed it onto some bread. ( Right Melissa?) And, yes, I ate the whole bulb. Bob doesn’t like it, and I couldn’t waste it. When I breathe in with my mouth open, that is all I can taste. But it is really good for you. So who cares??
I made a simple salad , which tasted really good after all the garlic, with the cucumber we got from Birdsong. Along with some red onion and balsamic vinegar.
Full , tired and listening to some summer showers. Time to brush my teeth!
After seeing my picture of the garlic, I am not sure if that is really balloon boy’s mode of transportation. Anybody..?
I love roasted garlic, so delicious! Have you tried Marcella Hazan’s Tomato Sauce with Onion and Butter? It’s so simple, all you need are the 3 ingredients I mentioned and only takes less than an hour! I did a post on it here: http://shecooksandheeats.wordpress.com/2011/07/16/i-want-me-some-meatballs-and-spaghetti/. Check it out and let me know what you think! I’m new to this blogging thing and am loving the foodie community! Please check out my blog: http://shecooksandheeats.wordpress.com. If you have any advice, please do share! 🙂
Thanks for commenting on our site I enjoyed looking at yours as well. I think we may try the meatballs they looked good in the photos. We are very new to this as well and just started to see what each other were doing with the farm CSA boxes. It is a lot of fun and everyone is enjoying it.
Ha! Yeah, that could be balloon boy’s flying Jiffy Pop bag. I adore roasted garlic, and I’m hoping the good garlic keeps coming the next few weeks. The whole meal looks fantastic. I especially love that the spaghetti and meatballs are a bit simpler so that you can make it on a weeknight without giving up an entire afternoon. That means I might get to make it soon.
I love that both you and Carolyn made sauce and spagetti this week. How yummy it looks!
Ooooh, I hope that we get more garlic so that I can roast the whole bulb. Kim and I both love that on bread, so who cares about the breath!
I’m in the process of making this sauce, Bethy, and you could have warned me about exploding tomatoes!!
How Martha of you BETH to leave out the gory details!!!
I told the girl that helps our farmer Matt pass out the boxes, that I roasted and ate the whole garlic bulb. She told me that no mosquitos would bit me. And, come to think of it I haven’t been bitten for quite some time. More important and informative details Kim!
Oh yeah, there is that sometimes Elyse! Stand back!
